YAS Plenary – 17 April 2015, University of Glasgow
The Young Academy’s Spring Plenary Meeting was held at the University of Glasgow’s Senate rooms from 9am-5pm.
Themed “2020 Vision- A YAS 5-Year Strategic Framework,” this meeting was centered around creating a strategy plan for the society. Keynote speakers Professor Miles Padgett, Vice-Principal for Research (Research Strategy and Innovation Office) and Kelvin Chair of Natural Philosophy (Physics and Astronomy), University of Glasgow, Alastair Maclean, Director of Corporate Governance, City of Edinburgh Council David Grevemburg, Chief Executive Officer, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games all gave short presentations on developing strategies for a variety of different types of organisations.
After these presentations, YAS split into working groups to develop suggestions for a draft YAS strategic plan. These notes were collected by the facilitating group and given to a newly formed strategy group, who will collate and polish the members ideas into a finished document.
In addition to talks on strategy, the plenary saw a presentation from Steven Vass of The Conversation. The Conversation, a news website built through collaboration between academics and journalists, shares many goals with YAS’s working group Research the Headlines.
