Young Academy of Scotland launched!

The Young Academy of Scotland was officially launched on 29 November 2011, at an event chaired by the journalist Kenneth Roy. The 68 new members were welcomed by Sir John Arbuthnott (President of the RSE) and Professor Alice Brown (General Secretary of the RSE).

Speakers included Shami Chakrabarti (Director of Liberty), Professor Anne Glover (Chief Scientific Adviser to the Scottish Government), Professor Steve Jones (geneticist at University College London), and Dr Martin Parker (composer).

Our Members

Michaela is a Research Fellow in Human Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests are memory, forgetting and dementia. More specifically, she is exploring (i) how the brain processes new memories, (ii) how these processes are disrupted by other ongoing cognitive activity in patients with memory impairment, and (iii) how memory can be improved in these patients by shielding the memory system from such disruption.
