This week Marie Montondo joined the Young Academy of Scotland as its new Communications and Executive Assistant.
Marie gained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from SUNY Geneseo in Upstate New York in 2010, and a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University in 2012. As an undergraduate she researched media frames surrounding female politicians and how hegemonic structures influenced the success of women in politics in the United States. During her postgraduate degree she developed and ran a website devoted to literary travel called Go There. Read This.
Marie came to us through Adopt an Intern, an organisation that pairs graduates with Scottish organisations that are willing to give them paid, real-world business experience. She was the 1000th intern appointed through this programme.
In her new role as Executive Assistant, Marie hopes to increase public awareness of the Young Academy’s work. She will use her knowledge of communications and the media to increase public engagement with the society and create opportunities for society members to engage with the public, and one another, to address some of society’s most important issues.
