Siobhan O’Connor a member of the Young Academy of Scotland has participated in the first Ideas Hub run by the Welcome Collection in London. The Ideas Hub is a week-long programme of activities and workshops exploring the links between science, medicine, life and art.
A mix of scientists and artists from different backgrounds were selected to spend a week together at the Wellcome Collection from 3-7th September 2018. The group experienced inspiring talks and workshops, undertook creative challenges and visited thought provoking organisations to inspire transdisciplinary collaborations. A host of topics from inclusive design to climate change and medical morality were explored among others.
Three YAS members were named today amongst 56 distinguished individuals elected to become Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). Sharon Ashbrook, Cait MacPhee and Graeme Malcolm join Ineke De Moortel, who last year became the first YAS member inducted into the RSE.
As Scotland’s National Academy, the RSE’s Fellowship hails from sector that range from the arts, business, science and technology and academia. This range of expertise enables the RSE to take part in a host of activities such as providing independent and expert advice to Government and Parliament, supporting aspiring entrepreneurs through mentorship, facilitating education programmes for young people and engaging the general public through educational events.
On 10-11 December 2015, the Global Young Academy (GYA) and the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts will hold an interdisciplinary young experts meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on the refugee crisis to develop a vision document based on the latest evidence. The goal of this meeting on "Fresh Scientific Eyes on the Refugee Crisis" is to provide policy-makers and committed citizens with key insights and potential approaches to address aspects of the current refugee crisis.
YAS member Karly Kehoe, who is also a member of the GYA is involved in organising this meeting. Another YAS member Jeffrey Murer, will participate and represent YAS at this conference.
