An international team of scientist led by Christian Rutz MYAS (St Andrews University) has made a fascinating discovery about a rare Hawaiian crow. The endangered Alalā is an advanced tool-user according to the teams’ recent cover story in the leading journal Nature.
Dr Rutz has previously studied another too-using crow species, the New Caledonian crow, which was until recently regarded as a fascintating anomoly by researchers. The discovery of the Alalā’s very similar- but seperately evolved- abilities raising the exciting possibility that other, less-studied species of crow might also be tool-users.
