Congratulations to YAS Scientists Involved in Gravitational Waves Discovery

Congratulations to YAS Scientists Involved in Gravitational Waves Discovery

Following the momentous news that gravitational waves have been detected by the LIGO Collaboration, we would like to offer our congratulations, not only to LIGO, but to all the physicists, in the RSE Young Academy of Scotland, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and at the University of Glasgow who were involved in this discovery.

The YAS members who were involved in this discovery are:

    • Giles Hammond, Reader, Institute for Gravitational Research, University of Glasgow
    • Ik Heng, Reader, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow
    • Stefan Hild (pictured left), Reader, Institute for Gravitational Research, University of Glasgow
    • Stuart Reid, Reader, School of Engineering and Computing, University of the West of Scotland

For those outside the physics community, YAS member Duncan Forgan has produced an article about the gravitational waves discovery.  Entitled Gravity Waves and Gravitational Waves are Not the Same Thing, this article was published at Research the Headlines, an interdisciplinary blog run by a YAS working group.
