Valeria Skafida

Valeria Skafida is of Greek-Italian descent, and lived in Sweden during her school-age years. She completed undergraduate studies in Social Anthropology and Social Policy, and was awarded an ESRC-CASE studentship to complete an MSc and PhD in Social Policy, all at the University of Edinburgh. Both her doctoral and British Academy funded post-doctoral research explores how dietary habits develop over time from infancy to early childhood within the context of family life in Scotland, using longitudinal quantitative analysis of survey data.

She is currently a Lecturer in Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests include: the social stratification of health behaviours; the sociology of health and illness; child nutrition and family meal habits; public health policy and industry influence on public policy; longitudinal research.

Professor Lesley McMillan is Professor of Criminology and Sociology and Theme Lead for Violence, Crime and Justice Research at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is Associate Director of the Scottish Institute for Policing Research where she leads the Public Protection Network and Associate Director of the Centre for Research in Families and Relationships at the University of Edinburgh.
