Dr Tracy Kirk is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Stirling specialising in children’s rights, youth justice, and human rights. Her research focuses on evolving capacities, participation, and the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in law, policy, and practice.
Tracy works closely with the Scottish Government, Parliament, local authorities, and third-sector organisations to support rights-based approaches to decision-making affecting children and young people. She has contributed to legislative scrutiny, policy development, professional learning, and public engagement initiatives across Scotland.
A strong advocate of participatory approaches, she works directly with children and young people to co-produce research, journal articles, media contributions, and public engagement activities. Through research, teaching, policy engagement, and media work, she seeks to ensure that children’s voices help shape public debate and institutional change.
