Dr Tiffany Wood heads the Edinburgh Complex Fluids Partnership (ECFP) which works with all sectors across the formulation industry to solve issues and provide innovative solutions. Established in 2012, ECFP is based within the Soft Condensed Matter Physics Research Group at the University of Edinburgh and exploits academic understanding of how the fundamental physical interactions between components define the microstructure and bulk properties (e.g. flow behaviour and stability) of products. Tiffany enjoys extrapolating academic research to real products and seeking solutions that have wide-spread potential to improve consumer health and environmental sustainability.
The scope of Tiffany’s projects includes work on dispersions, emulsions, gels, interfacial stabilisation, film formation, liquid crystals and motile matter (such as bacteria and sperm). In parallel to her work with industry, Tiffany continues to publish academic work at an international level, in particular in the field of colloids in liquid crystalline media.
