Susan is a technologist working at the intersection between research and innovation. She is currently the Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange) for the Faculty of Science at the University of Strathclyde – a leading international technological university. As a knowledge exchange professional, she develops and leads collaborative research and knowledge exchange to make new knowledge useful for societal and economic benefit. Based in the Department of Physics, she works closely with external stakeholders in academia, industry, and government, through industry-led applied research projects, knowledge transfer projects, consultancy, provision of skills development and training courses, policy input, and technology transfer and commercialisation activities.
An experimental physicist by training, Susan works primarily across the renowned photonics, quantum and space industry-led clusters in Scotland’s central belt but also engages more widely in the rest of the UK and internationally. Susan is strongly motivated to improve inclusion and diversity in physics and photonics and is involved in a number of initiatives to address barriers faced by minority groups in Scotland’s photonics sector.
