Rachel is a lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Her research field is fundamental nuclear physics and is driven by her passion to understand the Universe on a deeper level. She is working collaboratively in large international teams on experiments based at particle accelerators. These experiments aim to study how the smallest building blocks of our visible Universe are bound together. Her research involves developing new instruments to measure sub-atomic particles, and novel software to analyse big data. She is generally very interested in new technologies and data analysis techniques in science and engineering. She is motivated to promote the many societal benefits of scientific research and science education. To this end, she is keen to pursue societal applications of her research and enjoys working in interdisciplinary teams. She frequently partakes in science communication with the public and develops new materials for science outreach.
