Bio

Dr Paul A Hoskisson is a senior lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Strathclyde. Paul obtained his PhD from Liverpool John Moores University in 2002, followed by post-doctoral positions at the John Innes Centre and the University of Aberdeen. He established his own research group at the University of Strathclyde in 2007.

Paul’s research is focussed on the synthesis of antibiotics and the evolution of pathogens, using a range of techniques from molecular biology and biochemistry through to mathematical modelling and image analysis. He is a Council member of the Society for General Microbiology and chairs their Communications Committee.

Emily Alder is Lecturer in English literature at Edinburgh Napier University, where she teaches literature, film, popular culture and ecocriticism from the nineteenth century to the present. She is an interdisciplinary researcher whose interests lie in literature and science and the environmental humanities.
