Dr Marcia A. Vera Espinoza is a Reader and Deputy Director at the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) at Queen Margaret University, in Edinburgh. At IGHD she also leads the Psychosocial Wellbeing, Integration and Protection Research Cluster. Marcia is Associate Editor of Migration Studies and a member of the International Advisory Board of Forced Migration Review.
Her research focuses on the study of processes of refugee and migrant inclusion as well as migration governance in Latin America, Scotland, and beyond. Marcia is a co-founding member of the research group Comparative Analysis in International Migration and Displacement in the Americas (CAMINAR).
Marcia has recently published her work in the Journal of Immigrant & Refugee Studies, International Migration Review, Comparative Migration Studies, Social Sciences; Migration and Society; Geopolitics, and Global Policy, among others. Her co-edited books include ‘The Dynamics of Regional Migration Governance’ (Edward Elgar, 2019 with Andrew Geddes, Leyla Hadj Abdou, and Leiza Brumat), ‘Latin America and Refugee Protection: regimes, logics and challenges’ (Berghahn Books, 2021 with Liliana Jubilut and Gabriela Mezzanotti), and ‘Movilidades y COVID-19 en América Latina: inclusiones y exclusiones en tiempos de ‘Crisis’’ (UNAM, 2022 with Gisela Zapata and Luciana Gandini).
