Dr Kalimullah Saighani, born in Afghanistan, is a distinguished scholar specialising in biological science. He completed his high school in Kabul, pursued his BSc in Agronomy at Kabul University, and obtained his MSc and Ph.D. degrees from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), Japan. The main area of his research is transcriptional responses to high and low temperature stresses in barley coleoptiles to discover the mechanisms that are altered to adapt the plant to its future growth. Currently, he is a Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews, UK. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at TUAT and an assistant professor at Kabul University. He is a member of the Japanese Society of Breeding, and the British Educational Research Association. He is a candidate to be a volunteer reviewer for seeds and crops journals. Dr Saighani is multilingual, with proficiency in Persian, Pashto, English, and Japanese.
