Bio

At present, Helen holds a Royal Academy of Engineering and EPSRC Research Fellowship at Heriot-Watt University. The main aim of her research is to develop tools which enable faster monitoring of water quality, to improve public health. There are various strands to this work. Firstly, efficient sample processing of large volumes of water with high recovery rates is essential to isolate pathogens, which are present at very low numbers. Secondly, accurate and detailed pathogen characterization, determining both species and viability, is necessary. Her research addresses both of these issues, with the long-term aim of developing integrated and automated systems.
