Guy Walker

Dr Guy Walker is an Associate Professor in the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.  His research specialism is human factors engineering and has been featured in national newspapers, TV and radio through to an appearance on the Discovery Channel.  He has been awarded the Institute for Ergonomics and Human Factors (IEHF) President’s Medal for the practical application of research, the Peter Vulcan prize for best research paper, and Heriot-Watt’s Graduate’s Prize for inspirational teaching.  Dr Walker has a BSc Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Southampton and a PhD in Human Factors from Brunel University.

Dr Barreto’s expertise is the use of advanced laboratory techniques and the numerical modelling of soil behaviour using the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Recent work includes experimental research on the behaviour of sand-rubber mixtures to improve the seismic behaviour of foundations and structures.
