Since joining the School in January 2013, David has been a Depute, and subsequently the Programme Director, on the Initial Teacher Education Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE): Primary and Secondary (Full-time and Distance Learning Initital Teacher Education (DLITE)).  David has also deputised as Head of School.  David is a member of the School of Education's Executive Committee and the University of Aberdeen's Senate.

Having a longstanding passion for the study of Religion and Philosophy - both in and outwith the context of Education - David is currently involved in a transnational European Erasmus Plus funded exploration of Religious Education and Diversity (READY).

David has been a long-time advocate for LGBT inclusion, and his current research explores the beliefs and experiences of Initial Teacher Education students concerning LGBT matters throughout Scotland. At the University of Aberdeen, David is a founding member of the University of Aberdeen's LGBT Staff Network where he currently serves as the Policy Representative. 

David has previously worked for Scottish Government (Education Scotland); Local Government (Aberdeen City); General Teaching Council for Scotland; and schools in Aberdeen City and Angus. Prior to becoming a teacher, David worked in the Third Sector, where over several years he led a team to turnaround a struggling charitable company.

Our Members

Daniela is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Work & Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde. Trained as a primary school teacher in Romania, Daniela’s research work focuses on the experiences of marginalised groups and issues of social justice, including approaches to tackling child poverty and minimising its impact on children's opportunities; children as service users and their involvement in consultation; multi-agency working; migration and its impact on children and inclusion of ethnic minority groups (especially Roma and Gypsy Travellers).
