"The Power of Data Analytics: Murder, Gambling and Infectious Disease"

Our world is increasingly flooded with data of all types, but without the correct mathematical and statistical thinking, we may be led to make false conclusions when chance events occur. In this pair of one-hour events, statistical experts will highlight the fascinating role of the statistician in the everyday process of weighing noisy evidence and making good decisions.

This event is organised as part of the Glasgow Science Festival and intended for pupils in S4-S6 studying science and/or maths.

The event is supported and organised by the YAS Education in Excellence working group, the Royal Statistical Society and the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow.

Our Members

Heidi is a Research Fellow at the Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Science and Technology, Heriot-Watt University. Her research investigates the photosynthesis of marine algae and corals and the role these organisms play in the oceanic carbon cycle.
