"The Power of Data Analytics: Murder, Gambling and Infectious Disease"

Our world is increasingly flooded with data of all types, but without the correct mathematical and statistical thinking, we may be led to make false conclusions when chance events occur. In this pair of one-hour events, statistical experts will highlight the fascinating role of the statistician in the everyday process of weighing noisy evidence and making good decisions.

This event is organised as part of the Glasgow Science Festival and intended for pupils in S4-S6 studying science and/or maths.

The event is supported and organised by the YAS Education in Excellence working group, the Royal Statistical Society and the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow.

Our Members

Mark is a lecturer in chemistry at the University of Glasgow, specialising in finding sustainable ways to produce fuels and remove pollutants from the environment. As part of his research, Mark co-invented a new type of water electrolyser, which is being spun out from the University of Glasgow.
