A new drive to inspire women to strive for the top jobs in higher education is showcasing the careers of successful female academics.
Women in Academia Now, hopes to tackle the still low numbers of senior women in universities, despite growing recognition in the corporate world that the talents and expertise of women bring enormous benefits.
Two St Andrews YAS members, Prof Ineke De Moortel and Dr Christian Rutz, have been awarded an 'Award Lecture' at this year's British Science Festival. Ineke will present the Lord Kelvin Award Lecture on "Our Dynamical Sun: A 21st Century View" and Christian the Isambard Kingdom Brunel Lecture on "Of crafty crows and space shuttles: Animal tool use as a window into human technological evolution". The 2014 British Science Festival will take place in Birmingham, 6-11 September.
Dr Miao is currently a Lecturer in Urban Planning and Development, in the Department of Urban Studies of Glasgow University. Previously she worked as a Post-Doc in the Geography Department of St Andrews University after she was awarded her PhD in Economic Geography and Planning by University College London.
