The Open Data group hosted a panel debate on Friday on the theme of 'Open Data in Government, Innovation and Research'. The panelists were:

- David Carr Policy Adviser, The Wellcome Trust

The Young Academy has a stand at the Science and the Parliament event at Dynamic Earth on 13th November. YAS members may wish to make themselves available to help man the stand at different times of the day. Adam Smith Series of Global Economic Briefings fifth event: 
September 4th. Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, will visit the Royal Society of Edinburgh and address the subject of Investing in Asia from the viewpoint particularly of SMEs. Followed by a networking lunch. It is free and open to the public.

Adam Smith Series of Global Economic Briefings sixth event: 
October 11th. Lord Desai, Professor Emeritus, London School of Economics will take an unconventional look at the Asian region and explore areas where we should expect upsets and setbacks as well as opportunities. This will be the fifth Adam Smith Global Economic Briefing in our programme.

Young Academy of Scotland member Luke Bisby has been selected as a 2013 Young Scientist by the World Economic Forum. This honour is bestowed by the WEF each year to recognize the most distinguished science leaders under the age of 40, nominated from around the world.

Luke will be representing the YAS at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2013 in Dalian, People's Republic of China.
