Young Academy of Scotland member Luke Bisby has been selected as a 2013 Young Scientist by the World Economic Forum. This honour is bestowed by the WEF each year to recognize the most distinguished science leaders under the age of 40, nominated from around the world.
Luke will be representing the YAS at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2013 in Dalian, People's Republic of China. This is the foremost global business gathering in Asia, creating a unique opportunity for exchange between leaders from top-ranked multinationals and chief executive officers of dynamic and fast-growing companies, including key decision-makers from government, media, academia and civil society.
Ian Overton is a Senior Research Fellow and Chancellor's Fellow at the Centre for Medical Informatics, University of Edinburgh Medical School.
His research group are applying data integration and machine learning approaches to develop probabilistic network models of gene function, as well as predictive algorithms (e.g. for cancer treatment regime selection), including systems-wide modelling of phenotypic plasticity. Control of epithelial and mesenchymal cell fates is fundamental in development (e.g. neural crest migration), in cancer progression and associated with stem cell properties, including somatic cell reprogramming.
