The launch event for YAS Member Dr Jane Stanley’s Lab Notes will take place at the RSE on 14 May at 6pm. Lab Notes is an innovative piece for music and film, set in a modern systems biology lab. The event will commence with the screening of the short film and there will be a panel discussion focusing on the process involved in collaborating between the arts and sciences. Calling all YAS members in Arts & Humanities!!

Dear colleagues,
We would like to invite you to an informal meeting of RSE Fellows and Young Academy of Scotland members in the area of Arts and Humanities, to discuss the many academic and funding issues which concern us all. For instance, within the RSE, the reduced funding from SFC coupled with ring-fencing of the RSE's STEMM fellowships, has resulted in reduced funds for A&H small grants and workshops. The way forward is collaboration with other organisations, and we would appreciate your suggestions on this topic. There are also concerns about the effects of Open Access on A&H, and about similar issues in which A&H differ from the STEMM subjects that are driving much current policy. We might also consider suggestions for RSE/BA collaborative symposia.

We hope you can join us at the RSE on Monday 20 May, at 10.30am. RSVP to Aileen by 10 May.
Kind regards,
Graham D Caie, Vice President (Arts and Humanities), RSE.
